Café Art is hosting the My London, My SãoPaulo Exhibition, plus a selection of paintings from Café Art artists at Carousel London, 71 Blandford St, London W1U 8AB on Tuesday 1 December 2015, 6.30pm – 8.30pm. The Brazilian photos come from a pilot project, which was funded by With One Voice as part of an exchange between Brazil and the UK. The London contest was held in July, with 100 disposable cameras handed out to London people affected by homelessness. The top 20 photos were voted on by the public in August and the fundraising 2016 My London calendar was launched in October. Café Art ran a pilot photography contest in São Paulo, Brazil in early November, working with homeless shelters in the city. One hundred cameras were handed out in two São Paulo shelters. Like London, the São Paulo participants had several days to take images of their city. The winning shots were selected with the help of a member of The Royal Photographic Society in São Paulo. The exhibition will also show the My São Paulo calendar, currently being designed in London by Carter Wong Design, the same designers as the My London calendar. The calendar will be printed in Brazil and sold during the São Paulo Human Rights Festival in December. A selection of paintings from Café Art London artists will also be in the exhibition. Staff from leading UK homelessness charities – the Booth Centre, Manchester, The Choir with No Name, Café Art, Cardboard Citizens, Streetwise Opera, Homeless Link and Crisis Skylight – as well as a councillor from Manchester City Council and a member of the Manchester homeless community visited São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro homelessness sector charities in November 2015.
