A ground-breaking multimedia experience
We partnered with Earl Kendrick to help 12 MYLONDON participants photograph buildings that hold personal significance. This relates to their experiences with homelessness. The result is a ground-breaking new multimedia exhibition opening next week at the Building Centre, Store Street, London.
The exhibition features videos of the photographers discussing not only the buildings they captured but also their views on homelessness. They share their thoughts on how the issue can be resolved. These videos will be projected onto walls surrounding 12 enlarged photos taken by the photographers.

This project aims to connect with a segment of the London population—companies in the building trade. By engaging with people who are homeless or recently homeless, we hope to open a dialogue. This dialogue will focus on how the wider community can address these pressing issues.
Earl Kendrick approached us with this innovative idea and has generously supported the initiative. They have covered the costs involved in producing and hosting the exhibition, including prize money for all 12 photographers.

The photographic journey
Photographers used either a Fujifilm QuickSnap camera or a digital camera. Each participant had one of their photos enlarged for the exhibition. Additionally, several other photos taken by them will be projected onto the walls of the Building Centre exhibition space.
Following consultations with the photographers, it was agreed that they would capture images of buildings that held personal meaning. This could be a place where they felt safe, such as a former home, or a location where someone or an organization had helped them in the past. Alternatively, it could be a building that inspires them. MYWORLD volunteers met the photographers at the locations they chose to photograph in early September.

All photographers who participated in this year's MYLONDON project were invited to take part in this additional project. Twelve individuals expressed their interest. This project is seen as an extension of the MYLONDON initiative—an opportunity to discuss homelessness more deeply, rather than just focusing on photography.
A Unique Perspective on Beauty
The photographs in this exhibition showcase beauty in a different light. They capture the rough back streets of Tottenham alongside inspiring churches and palaces in central London and Kensington Gardens. This perspective highlights the diverse experiences of homelessness and the places that resonate with those who have faced it.

This exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of the stories behind the buildings we often overlook. It invites viewers to reflect on the human experiences tied to these structures. By sharing these narratives, we hope to foster understanding and inspire action towards addressing homelessness in our communities.
Through this initiative, we aim to bridge the gap between the building industry and those affected by homelessness. By engaging in meaningful conversations, we can work together to create solutions that benefit everyone.
Join us in exploring these powerful stories and the buildings that shape our lives. Your presence at the exhibition can contribute to a larger conversation about homelessness and inspire change.
We look forward to welcoming you to this unique exhibition that blends art, storytelling, and social awareness. Together, we can make a difference.
