Mentoring as a way to connect - can you volunteer on World Homeless Day?

We are raising money to fund our photography mentoring group run by volunteers on World Homeless day and we need help!

People with lived experience of homelessness have benefited thanks to the Cafe Art RPS Photography Mentoring Group run by RPS volunteers since 2015.

It was a natural addition to the annual MYLONDON project. With MYLONDON we can only give basic advice on photography on a single-use film camera (provided by Fujifilm) but with the mentoring group there is so much more: training on digital cameras, a regular social activity (the group meets on Saturday afternoons in person one Saturday and online the next) and much more, including exhibitions.

Participants have told us that the fact the group has continued, almost non-stop (we kept going during Covid online), is a huge plus. Unlike other courses that might be run by charities who get funding to run a six-week course, followed by an exhibition, our group offers continued support.

We fund some of the activities and exhibitions through MYLONDON calendar sales, other costs are covered by the RPS London groups and a lot by the actual volunteers from the RPS.

On World Homeless Day, October 10th, we are raising money for the mentoring group. This will help them fund the activities, including admission fees to the odd exhibition (though they mostly just walk around the streets of London), frames and printing costs for their exhibitions and occasionally travel costs.

We are extremely fortunate to be able to raise money at four Elizabeth line stations on Tuesday October the 10th between 8am and 7pm, however we're asking volunteers to give 4 hours max. If you can help us by joining one of our tables in a station to hold a bucket we would be extremely grateful! Please email paul.ryan@myworldcreativeprojects.org
